Ride
with Your Mind Essentials Mary Wanless, Dianne Breeze (Illustrator)
Whilst the horse world is rich in descriptions that tell us
what horse and rider should look like, we lack good information
about exactly "how" to produce the desired results.
Good horsemen ride well without knowing how they do it, and
without understanding why you are not like them and cannot
do it too. During 23 years of research it has been Mary Wanless's
personal mission to expose the secrets of horsemanship, breaking
down riding skills into "bite-size chunks" and finding
ways of describing them that work for average riders.
Taking
Up Riding as an Adult Diana Delmar
For many people, the closest they ever came to fulfilling
childhood dreams of horseback riding was circling the calliope

makes some of us reluctant to pursue to our dreams of riding.
In her new book, author Diana Delmar proves that it is never
too late to "get back in the saddle again," even
if you’ve never been there before. This book offers
step-by-step advice for finding a lesson stable and instructor,
assessing horse health, and buying horse tack and supplies.
Perfect
Manners: How to Behave So Your Horse Will Too Kelly Marks
Here, Kelly Marks, a former European champion
jockey and showjumper, explains that the secret of dealing
with fiery and recalcitrant horses is to talk to them in their
own language, establishing a relationship of trust and respect,
using considerate and consistent techniques. She believes
it is helpful to formulate a "code of conduct" for
your horse and while you're at it, for yourself as well, making
consideration a way of life. "Perfect Manners" starts
with the philosophy and concepts behind Kelly Marks's techniques
and moves on to foundation exercises and groundwork training.

My
Friend Flicka
[1943]
In Utah, USA, young Ken McLaughlin (Roddy McDowell) struggles
to stay out of trouble and, more importantly, to please his
father. To try to teach him some responsibility, Ken’s
frustrated father, Rob (Preston Foster) allows him to choose
a foal to raise, but is somewhat disturbed by his choice.
Ken has chosen the foal of a stormy mare, and his father is
not convinced Ken will be able to handle her. Ken however,
is determined to prove himself and sets out to train his affectionately
named foal, Flicka. Initially, Flicka seems determined to
prove Rob’s point and fiercely resists all Ken’s
efforts. However, persistence and love win the day, and Flicka
grows up to be a magnificent animal and friend to Ken. Through
good and bad times, illness and adventure, the two friends
prosper.
The
Black Stallion
[1979]
Adapted from the beloved novel by Walter Farley, The Black
Stallion is a 1979 family classic that was hailed by no less
than hard-to-please critic Pauline Kael as "may be the
greatest children's movie ever made". A visual feast
from start to finish, the timeless tale plays out on almost
mythic terms. A young boy survives a shipwreck and is stranded
on a deserted island with a graceful black stallion, with
whom the boy develops an almost empathic friendship. After
being rescued and returning home, the two make a winning team
as jockey and lightning-fast racehorse under the tutelage
of a passionate trainer, played by Mickey Rooney in an Oscar-nominated
role. From its serenely hypnotic island sequence to the breathtaking
race scenes, this delightful film is guaranteed to enthral
any viewer, regardless of age. The Black Stallion is a genuine
masterpiece of family entertainment.
The
Black Stallion Returns [1983]
A young boy stows away from America to North Africa to rescue
his black stallion from the Berber sheikh who kidnapped the
horse.
Spirit:
Stallion of the Cimarron[2002] Video
/ DVD
Horse lovers young and old will celebrate Spirit, an utterly
enjoyable and marvellous-looking animated film. The titular
stallion runs free in the Cimarron (New Mexico) wilderness
until a series of men try to master the proud horse, leading
to adventures through a US Cavalry fort, Native American settlements,
and a railroad camp. Despite a heavy dose of political correctness
and realism (the animals don't talk; we only hear Spirit's
internal monologue, voiced by Matt Damon), directors Kelly
Asbury and Lorna Cook give their hero many only-in-a-movie
moments, including an action sequence rivalling any of James
Bond’s escapes. The stirring mix of 2-D and 3-D animation
is absolutely stunning and aptly fuelled by composer Hans
Zimmer's synthesised score. The film earns one demerit for
80s rocker Bryan Adams's abundant songs--a different singer
could have brought more to the film.--Doug Thomas, Amazon.com
